Studio reflection:The studios that we were a part of related to the big idea (celebrations) because the way that I wet about the Norman Rockwell studio was to celebrate how far we have come as a society in terms of technology. And then the Nick cave studio was celebrations because he decorated and created costumes for celebrations of various cultures. Lastly the artist choice day studio that I took part in I did a piece of art in which I celebrated my Dad being my hero.
One way that I might utilize art integration in my classroom using the studio lessons would be to use the studio lessons as a way to engage my students about cultures around the world, using the Nick Cave studio. I would have the students pick a culture to research and then construct a finger puppet using the data they researched about celebrations in that culture. As talked about in the ArtsEdge document entitled “Defining Arts Integration”, practices that allow for students to benefit from art integration is drawing upon prior knowledge, providing active hands on learning, and allowing for students to learn from each other (pg. 2). One last way that I would integrate the studios into my classroom would be to give my students the choice of four or five options of an integrated art lesson plan that they could choose from for the day. And then the students would have their freedom to do what they wanted from their once they have chosen. This would be as Trevor Baylis was quoted in Pinks book as saying, “The key to success is thinking unconventional thoughts” (pg. 137).
